  1. 2nd week of school over… Gotta be faithful

September 12, 2011 by Sean Tangco

    Hello everybody,

Thank you for checking out my blog. I am going to keep this week’s message short since I don’t have much time to get into too much detail about my experiences this last week. I went to “Ignite” a Christian conference for the Intervarsity organizations all over southern California.

Last Thursday, the southwestern power grid went offline which threw my weekly routine out of line. While at school, the university library triggered a very loud siren that reminded me of a tsunami warning/nuclear attack. It was the loudest siren that I had ever heard and it gave me an anxiety attack.

In my classes I am reading Marx, Freud, Boas, Tylor and Morgan. I’ll try to give my thoughts about their historical cultural theories in next week’s post. In other classes I am learning cranium anatomy, archaeological methods, linguistic history, and ethics in applied anthropology.

By the next week I hope to put a mentor page up as well as a change in theme on my website. I would also love to share with you my view of anthropology as I develop into a professional.

    Have a great week!

  2. My journey to becoming a professional in my own eyes.

    Hello everybody,

Thank you for coming to check out my site and reading what I have to share. I am a graduate student at San Diego State University studying anthropology and I am learning a lot of the theoretical history of this field as well as the future career opportunities available for anthropologists. While studying at the university, I am also studying the Bible and reading a devotional called the “Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren. Today is my day off and I plan to have each Saturday for the rest of this semester open so that I can have time for mind to relax.

Useful things that I learned this week:

    • Business Cards: I recently bought business cards from VistaPrint and they have been very effective for networking. If you have an extra $10 bucks you can purchase 500 business cards that you can use as networking/self-advertising tools. On the VistaPrint website I was able to pick a theme and insert my important networking information. They have been very helpful during situations where I meet someone new but asking for their number may be awkward or inappropriate. Business cards are great because they make you look professional and you hand them out when you are in a hurry!

  3. SEANTHROPOLOGY

Greetings. The College of Sciences is administering a referendum on the Student Success Fee. The revenue from this fee will be used to support academic programs that will make students more competitive upon graduation from San Diego State.
